Who I Am and How It Drives My Design Decisions

Greetings! I’m Katlyn , a passionate explorer and lifelong learner whose journey began with a desire to understand how people around the world eat, sleep, and live. This curiosity led me to travel extensively, immersing myself in diverse cultures and learning from each experience. My travels sparked a love for teaching, and what was supposed to be a one-year break before law school turned into a five-year teaching career.

During these years, I discovered my true passion: helping others learn and facilitating justice by ensuring everyone has the tools and support they need to succeed. This commitment has guided me to become an instructional designer who goes beyond creating engaging learning experiences. I conduct thorough research on learners and infuse positive psychology, diverse backgrounds, and key features to create a conducive learning environment that educates both the mind and the heart.

My role and process

In my professional experience, I have taken on various roles in projects, including:

  • Needs Analysis: Conducting thorough assessments to identify learning gaps and performance issues.

  • Content Development: Designing and developing engaging learning materials using tools like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Camtasia.

  • Instructional Design: Creating interactive training programs that solve performance problems.

  • Collaboration: Working with SMEs, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and effectiveness.

  • Evaluation: Measuring the effectiveness of learning solutions through real results and feedback.

I am known for asking strategic questions to identify root causes and employing creative methods to find solutions. My exposure to diverse cultural perspectives informs my design decisions, allowing me to create learning experiences that celebrate each learner’s unique background.
